Deccan Chargers thrashed Rajasthan Royals by 53 runs in 40th Match of IPL T20 season 2 as they got closer to cementing a semi-final berth alongside Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings. Adam Gilchrist won the toss and decided to bat. Dwayne Smith (47 off 32 balls) top scored for the Chargers as they reached 166/7 in 20 overs. Yusuf Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja were the pick of the Rajasthan Royals bowlers with bowling figures of 3/34 and 2/26 respectively. Most of the Rajasthan Royals batsmen struggled with the bat as the team crumbled and were bowled out for 113 runs in 19.3 overs. Swapnil Asnodkar (44 off 39 balls) top scored for the Royals while Rohit Sharma (3/12) and Chaminda Vaas (2/19) had best bowling figures for the Chargers. Dwayne Smith was awarded the Man of the Match.

In IPL T20 season 1, Deccan Chargers were placed at the last position in the points tally while Rajasthan Royals bagged the IPL title. But in IPL T20 season 2 Deccan Chargers won all its initial matches while Rajasthan Royals had just lost quite a few of the matches initially. So, the contest was going to be very interesting as expected. Adam Gilchrist won the toss and decided to bat. With useful contributions from Adam Gilchrist (39 off 35 balls), Rohit Sharma (38 off 32 balls) and Tirumalsetti Suman (41 off 32 balls), Deccan Chargers reached 141/5 in 20 overs. Shane Harwood did well for the Royals with the ball playing his first IPL match and he took 2 wickets for 25 runs. Rajasthan Royals had a terrible start as three of its top order batsmen got out on ducks. But then some brilliant knocking by Abhishek Raut (36 off 23 balls), Lee Carseldine (39 off 32 balls), Yusuf Pathan (24 off 14 balls) and Shane Warne (21 off 17 balls) helped Rajasthan Royals reach the target in 19.4 overs. Yusuf Pathan bagged yet another Man of the Match due to his quickfire 24 off 14 balls and his economical bowling figures of 1 wicket for 19 runs in 4 overs.

Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were both losing a lot of matches in IPL 2. But Chennai Super Kings had a very good batting and bowling lineup and it was expected that they will start winning matches once again. And they seemed to be performing to their abilities once again when they had a comfortable win over Rajasthan Royals by 38 runs in Match 22 of DLF IPL T20 season 2. Shane Warne won the toss and put Chennai Super Kings to bat. With the help of a brilliant innings of 98 runs off 55 balls by Suresh Raina, Chennai Super Kings scored 164/5 in their 20 overs. Yusuf Pathan and Munaf Patel had the best bowling figures of 2/17 and 2/25 respectively for the Royals. The weak batting lineup of the Rajasthan Royals were completely exposed as their only trump card Yusuf Pathan (20 runs off 13 balls) did not work today. Although Ravindra Jadeja (37 off 33 balls) played an good innings but Rajasthan Royals were bundled out for 126 runs with 3 balls to spare. Lakshmipathy Balaji, Albie Morkel and Jacob Oram were good with the ball for the Chennai Super Kings with bowling figures of 4/21, 2/21 and 2/21 respectively. Both Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders came into this 10th Match of IPL T20 season 2 with one loss each in their belt. Both of them are owned by Bollywood stars in the form of Shilpa Shetty and Shahrukh Khan respectively. Both of them had one more thing in common in IPL 2 which is that both teams had one of their matches affected by rain. While Rajasthan Royals last match was a rain washout, Kolkata Knight Riders won their last match on D/L method. In today’s match, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Brendon McCullum won the toss and put Rajasthan Royals to bat. Rajasthan Royals’ batting did not impress enough and they managed only 150/6 in their 20 overs with a 42 off 21 balls from Yusuf Pathan. Kolkata had two of its main batsmen firing with Chris Gayle (41 off 33 balls) and Sourav Ganguly (46 off 30 balls) playing quite well. The match was the most interesting match of IPL 2 bettering the previous Super Kings vs Delhi Daredevils match of the day. The whole Kolkata Knight Riders innings was favorite both the sides at different positions. Even in the last over, Knight Riders needed just 7 off 6 balls. But in the second last ball, Sourav Ganguly got out and it became 2 needed from 1 ball. Then Ishant Sharma got run out in the last ball but he had already run the first run and so the match was a tie. Then came the first Super Over of IPL season 2 to decide the match outcome. In the first Super Over, Kolkata Knight Riders took the bat while Rajasthan Royals took the ball. The batting responsibility for the Kolkata Knight Riders were taken by Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Sourav Ganguly while new rookie Kamran Khan was trusted by Warne for the over. Kamran Khan also bowled the crucial last over of the Knight Rider innings which resulted in the Super Over. Through Chris Gayle hit a few boundaries but Kamran bowled a good line and KKR managed only 15 runs in their Super Over. Then the Rajasthan Royals Super Over came where Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja and Dimitri Mascarenhas were chosen to take the batting responsibility by Warne while Kolkata Knight Riders gave the bowling to Sri Lankan medium pacer Ajantha Mendis. Yusuf Pathan hit the first ball for a 6 setting the momentum for the Royals. He took 2 runs from the next ball and then again hit a huge 6 from the following delivery. Chasing the 16 runs target set by KKR for the Super Over, Yusuf Pathan hit 4 runs off the fourth ball making their Super Over tally to 18 runs and surpassing the target easily. From the Rajasthan Royals squad, Kamran Khan took 3/18 while Shane Warne took 2/25. Yusuf Pathan was declared the Man of the Match for his blistering knocks during the Rajasthan Royals innings as well as the Super Over.
