In the second semi-final of IPL 2, Anil Kumble won the toss and put Chennai Super Kings to bat. Most of the Chennai Super Kings batsmen lost their wicket after making good starts. They struggled against a disciplined bowing performance by Bangalore bowlers and ended up at 146/5 in 20 overs. Bangalore Royal Challengers cruised to the target as they scored 149/4 in 18.5 overs with Rahul Dravid (44 off 39 balls) and Manish Pandey (48 off 35 balls) batting brilliantly. Manish Pandey displayed his awesome stroke-play in the innings as he hit the Chennai bowlers to every part of the stadium. Manish Pandey was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant innings.

Chennai Super Kings’ captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat. Matthew Hayden (89 runs off 58 balls), Dhoni (56 off 27 balls) and Suresh Raina (32 off 20 balls) smashed apart the Kings XI Punjab bowlers as they scored 185/3 in 18 overs of the rain curtailed match. Kings XI Punjab batsmen also came out very good and the match looked evenly poised with Yuvraj Singh (58 off 36 balls), Simon Katich (50 off 25 balls) and Mahela Jayawardena (44 off 25 balls) hitting flurry of fours and sixes. But the target was too much for the Punjab batsmen and they could only score 174 in their 18 overs. Matthew Hayden was awarded the Man of the Match for his terrific innings.

Chennai Super Kings thrashed the Deccan Chargers in the 29th match of IPL T20 season 2. Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat. Most of the Chennai batsmen cleared the boundary ropes easily and Chennai Super Kings reached 178/3 in 20 overs with prominent contributions from Matthew Hayden (43 off 26 balls), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (58 off 37 balls), Suresh Raina (32 off 19 balls) and Murali Vijay (31 off 33 balls). Deccan Chargers kept losing on wickets when they came to bat and even a cameo by Dwayne Smith (49 off 23 balls) could not save them from defeat. The Deccan Chargers were bundled out for only 100 runs in 14.4 overs. Shadab Jakati was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets for 22 runs while Muttiah Muralidaran and Albie Morkel bagged 2 wickets each. Dhoni was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.

Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were both losing a lot of matches in IPL 2. But Chennai Super Kings had a very good batting and bowling lineup and it was expected that they will start winning matches once again. And they seemed to be performing to their abilities once again when they had a comfortable win over Rajasthan Royals by 38 runs in Match 22 of DLF IPL T20 season 2. Shane Warne won the toss and put Chennai Super Kings to bat. With the help of a brilliant innings of 98 runs off 55 balls by Suresh Raina, Chennai Super Kings scored 164/5 in their 20 overs. Yusuf Pathan and Munaf Patel had the best bowling figures of 2/17 and 2/25 respectively for the Royals. The weak batting lineup of the Rajasthan Royals were completely exposed as their only trump card Yusuf Pathan (20 runs off 13 balls) did not work today. Although Ravindra Jadeja (37 off 33 balls) played an good innings but Rajasthan Royals were bundled out for 126 runs with 3 balls to spare. Lakshmipathy Balaji, Albie Morkel and Jacob Oram were good with the ball for the Chennai Super Kings with bowling figures of 4/21, 2/21 and 2/21 respectively. Chennai Super Kings had a defeat in their first IPL match against Mumbai Indians. On the other hand, Bangalore Royal Challengers had deated IPL T20 season 1 champions Rajasthan Royals in their opening match. But everybody knew that Dhoni and his boys had the potential to return back strongly in the tournament. And that is what they did with a resounding win of 92 runs. Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat. Matthew Hayden (65 off 35 balls) and Parthiv Patel (30 off 26 balls) smashed the Bangalore bowlers for fours and sixes and the Chennai Super Kings reached 106/0 in the first 10 overs itself. Though Chennai lost wickets at regular intervals after that but the base laid by Hayden was enough to cruise them CSK to 179/5 in their 20 overs. Bangalore Royal Challengers lost wickets at regular intervals when they came to bat and the efforts of Jacques Kallis (24 off 19 balls), Rahul Dravid (20 off 18 balls) and Robin Uthappa (20 off 19 balls) were not enough as they were bundled out for 87 runs in 15.2 overs. Muttiah Muralidharan bowled a super spell of 3/11 which fetched him the Man of the Match award.
