Kings XI Punjab beat Deccan Chargers by 3 wickets in 36th Match of IPL 2. Yuvraj Singh won the toss and decided to bowl. Andrew Symonds (60 off 36 balls) making his first appearance in IPL 2 helped Deccan Chargers reach 168/5 in 20 overs. Kings XI Punjab lost wickets at regular intervals but they did not let the required run rate to go up and they ended up winning in the second last ball of the match. Mahela Jayawardena scored 43 off 28 balls leading the batting charts for KXIP as they reached 169/7 in 19.5 overs. Mahela Jaywardena was also awarded the Man of the Match.

Chennai Super Kings’ captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat. Matthew Hayden (89 runs off 58 balls), Dhoni (56 off 27 balls) and Suresh Raina (32 off 20 balls) smashed apart the Kings XI Punjab bowlers as they scored 185/3 in 18 overs of the rain curtailed match. Kings XI Punjab batsmen also came out very good and the match looked evenly poised with Yuvraj Singh (58 off 36 balls), Simon Katich (50 off 25 balls) and Mahela Jayawardena (44 off 25 balls) hitting flurry of fours and sixes. But the target was too much for the Punjab batsmen and they could only score 174 in their 18 overs. Matthew Hayden was awarded the Man of the Match for his terrific innings.

Kolkata Knight Riders had been losing almost all matches and it has been engulfed by controversies too in IPL 2. This match was very crucial for them to make in the semi finals of IPL T20 season 2. Brendon McCullum won the toss and elected to bat. Kolkata Knight Riders reached a score of 153/3 in 20 overs due to a brilliant innings by Brad Hodge (70 off 43 balls). Kings XI Punjab chased down the score quiet easily helped by Mahela Jayawardena’s innings of 52 runs off 41 balls and a lot of dropped catches by the KKR fielders. It went down to the last ball of the match and Punjab reached 154/4 in 20 overs. Mahela Jayawardena was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant innings.

Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab had both loss their first match and both of them wanted to open their points tally with this match. Kolkata won the toss and put Kings XI Punjab to bat. With good batting from Irfan Pathan (32 off 17 balls), Yuvraj Singh (38 off 28 balls), Mahela Jayawardena (31 off 19 balls) and Kumar Sangakarra (26 off 24 balls), Punjab reached a competitive total of 158/6 in their 2o overs. Sourav Ganguly was the best bowling figures for the Knight Riders picking up 4/24 in his 4 overs. But KKR went off to a flier with Chris Gayle (44 off 26 balls) and Brendon Mccullum (21 off 16 balls) smashing the weak King XI bowling lineup for fours and sixes. Rain then interrupted the match but the results were in favour of Kolkata Knight Riders who won the match by D/L method. Chris Gayle was awarded the Man of the Match for his fiery innings of 44 off 26 balls.
