Anil Kumble won the toss and put Deccan Chargers to bat. Anil Kumble took the ball himself and dismissed danger man Gilly and several other important wickets to finish his bowling figures at 4/16. Herschelle Gibbs (53 off 48 balls) and Andrew Symonds (33 off 21 balls) shone with the bat for the Deccan Chargers as they reached 143/6 in 20 overs. Bangalore Royal Challengers long wickets at regular intervals when they came to bat and could only score 137/9 in a thrilling final. Anil Kumble was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling.

Kings XI Punjab beat Deccan Chargers by 3 wickets in 36th Match of IPL 2. Yuvraj Singh won the toss and decided to bowl. Andrew Symonds (60 off 36 balls) making his first appearance in IPL 2 helped Deccan Chargers reach 168/5 in 20 overs. Kings XI Punjab lost wickets at regular intervals but they did not let the required run rate to go up and they ended up winning in the second last ball of the match. Mahela Jayawardena scored 43 off 28 balls leading the batting charts for KXIP as they reached 169/7 in 19.5 overs. Mahela Jaywardena was also awarded the Man of the Match.

The dismal performance of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL continued as Mumbai Indians beat them by 9 runs in the 23rd Match of IPL T20 season 2. Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and decided to bat. With a very useful innings from J P Duminy (52 off 37 balls) after the foundation laid by Sachin Tendulkar (34 off 30 balls), Mumbai Indians reached 148/6 in 20 overs. Kolkata could not keep up with the required run rate when they came to bat and even a brilliant innings by Brad Hodge (73 off 60 balls) and Morne van Wyk (32 off 35 balls) could not save them as they ended up with only 139/6 in their 20 overs. Zaheer Khan was brilliant with the ball with bowling figures of 3 wickets for 31 runs. J P Duminy was awarded with the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 52 off 37 balls.
