It looked like an easy game for Delhi Daredevils as they were the most consistent side of IPL T20 season 2 while Kolkata Knight Riders were going bizarre since the start of the tournament. Brendon McCullum won the toss and decided to bat. Morne Van Wyn (74 off 48 balls), Brendon McCullum (35 off 29 balls) and Moises Henriques (30 off 24 balls) helped Kolkata Knight Riders reach 154/3 in 20 overs. Gautam Gambhir (71 off 57 balls), Tillakaratne Dilshan (42 off 34 balls) and David Warner (36 off 23 balls) were all brilliant with the bat. Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders have both changed their captains and Deccan Chargers are led by Adam Gilchrist while Kolkata coach had been floating the idea of multiple captains for KKR. But Brendon Mccullum was declared the captain for this match and they hoped that the change of captaincy would enhance the team’s performance. Mccullum won the toss and decided to bat first. They were quite pathetic with the bat and except Brad Hodge (31 off 34 balls) they failed to impress. The Knight Riders were bundled out for 101 runs in 19.4 overs. R P Singh shone with the ball scalping 4 wickets for 22 runs. The Deccan Chargers cruised through and reached the target in 13.1 overs with great performances by Hershelle Gibbs (43 off 26 balls) and Rohit Sharma (36 off 32 balls). Delhi Daredevil’s first match and the third match of IPL T20 season 2 was against Kings XI Punjab and it was expected to a very competitive and high scoring match. Both the teams have some great hitters and even both the captains Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh are regarded as two huge hitters of the cricket ball. But the match was heavily delayed as rain decided to play spoilsport. The match had to be reduced to 12 overs after several rain disruptions. Then Kings XI Punjab side were attacking from the very beginning and with brisk contributions from Karan Goel (38 off 21 balls), Ravi Bopara (22 off 16 balls) and Yuvraj Singh (16 off 11 balls) then managed to reach 104/7 in their 12 overs although their last few overs were not great. Sehwag (38 off 16 balls) and Gambhir (15 off 13 balls) came as the openers of the Delhi team and they started playing their natural game hitting boundaries and sixes. It was then that rain decided to play spoilsport once the target was revised to 54 in six overs. Sehwag continued with his hitting and the Daredevils completed the target within 4.5 overs. Daniel Vettori was declared Man of the Match due to his spell of 3/15.
