Sachin Tendulkar was withdrawn from an exhibition match in Wellington on Friday at the eleventh hour as the Board of Control for Cricket in India objected to presence of an Indian Cricket League player in the team he was to represent.
Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik were to play in a charity match between New Zealand Cricket Association and Australian Cricketers’ Association, but the BCCI objected to the presence of Hamish Marshall — a former New Zealand batsman who featured in the rebel ICL tournament last year — in the Kiwi side that Tendulkar was to play for.
Karthik was to play for the Australian team in the match, billed as a curtain-raiser to the second Twenty20 between India and New Zealand.

Brendon McCullum plays the hero again but this time in more trying circumstances. He remained unbeaten on 69 and New Zealand claim a clean-sweep of the Twenty20s. There was nothing to differentiate the two sides today. Credit must go to India for nearly defending 150.
This close contest nicely sets up the five one-dayers.
In post match presenration Dhoni said “The approach was good but we could have played better. The two-three wickets we lost in the middle were crucial. The spinners bowled well. There was chat around the camp to bowl one more seamer. I can’t really update you on Ishant’s injury.”

New Zealand beat India by 7 wkts in 1st Twenty20 match played at Christchurch. It was comfortable for New Zealand in the end. McCullum batted through, playing a sensible hand, without going for the big shot too early in his innings. He was helped by a solid show from the rest of the batsmen, as partnerships of 54, 50 and 60 show.
162 was always going to be hard to defend especially given the size of the ground. India’s frontline bowlers did a decent job but the back-up wasn’t quite up to the mark – the seven overs of Irfan, Yusuf and Yuvraj went for 92 runs.
At the presentation ceremony, Dhoni says he wants the batsman to take more responsibility, and that it was a learning experience for the team. “Happy with the way the bowlers bowled as it was a placid track, especially Harbhajan who is coming off a long break, ” Dhoni said.
